Spring Brainerd Fishing Guide Locations

Some of Gull Lake's best early season walleye locations are found on the northern end. Brainerd fishing guides will frequent Grassy, Cobbins, and Hayfield in the early season. The tops of these points have large, flat, shallow water, areas that are often overlooked by many anglers. Bowl shaped depressions in sandy areas, located in 6 to 9 feet of water, can be productive. This is especially true when multiple boats have concentrated themselves along the weed line in deeper water. The best weed line locations are inside corners and outside points. Key weed line water depths are 9 to 12 feet.

The spot tail shiner is the key bait for this time of year. They will out fish all other types of live bait ten to one during this period. A three inch spot-tail shiner on 1/8 oz jig has probably accounted for more walleyes than any other Brainerd fishing guide presentation. Remember to fish the combo slow. Cold water conditions mean low body temperatures for cold blooded creatures. Slower presentations will out fish faster speeds at this time.
